Oxford Migration Studies Society, Migration Mobility Network and Routed Magazine are delighted to invite you to join the annual Oxford Migration Conference, “Contours of Power: Exploring Power and Migration” . Together we will explore the layers of power that shape migration across the globe, and the multifaceted nature of the resulting human experience. Over three days, researchers, practitioners and activists will discuss (dis)empowerment, agency, the role of structural power dynamics, and the ways that power is claimed and resisted on a macro and micro scale.

Discussions will range from healthcare to community activism, and from bordering practices to the ways in which researchers and practitioners are complicit in and reproduce power structures. Ultimately, the conference seeks to focus conversation on the fragmented and myriad power dynamics surrounding migration experiences, research, and practice.

We are also delighted to be collaborating with Uncomfortable Oxford, an academic-led organisation dedicated to raising awareness about the 'uncomfortable' aspects of Oxford's history. There will be an opportunity for in-person attendants to enjoy one of their walking tours of the city at a discounted price (tickets limited and available to purchase alongside conference registration).

A conference special edition for Routed Magazine featuring articles and creative submissions by the contributors of this conference will be published in June.

The event will take a hybrid format. It will be hosted live in Oxford, but will be livestreamed (via Zoom) to allow for speakers and attendees unable to attend in person to join virtually. If you have questions concerning registration, please contact us via: oxfordmigration.booking@gmail.com
