Andreas works on issues that arise when stateless and undocumented persons try to prove their identities when seeking asylum or other forms of leave to remain in Europe. Andreas is writing an ethnography on the forced migration of stateless persons from Kuwait - known as the Bidoon - and has conducted fieldwork primarily in the UK, Sweden, and France. His work highlights how conceptualisations of identity become productive of communal relations and also trap forced migrants in prolonged limbo and precarity. Andreas also works on ethics in this context, including the ethnographic portrayal and representation of sensitive research.
