Diana Volpe

DPhil Candidate

Affiliation: Oxford Department of International Development
Expert in: Borders and detention, Migration narratives, representations,
and public opinion
Geographic focus: Mediterranean Sea

Diana's research focuses on the ethics and politics of migration control in the Mediterranean, especially in the context of pushbacks operated by Italy and the Libyan coast guard, and cooperation between these two in migration control. Through qualitative research, she questions the morality of these practices, and aims to further analyse how Italian governments have justified and legitimised this work, and how successful this justification is at reaching imaginaries of Italian society.
