Isabelle's work seeks a better understanding of 'moments of openness' towards refugees in the Global North, i.e. periods where state practices shift towards more welcoming asylum and resettlement polices. She is particularly interested in understanding the representations, perceptions, and emotions at play during those moments and the key actors involved. She is equally interested in understanding the ending of such moments. Isabelle particularly looks at the cases of Canada and Germany towards Syrian refugees in 2015-2016, the UK towards Kosovar refugees in 1999, and France towards Southeast Asian refugees in the seventies.
