Jasper's research focuses on the historical development of migration control and state power with a special focus on the role of racial hiearchies in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In his work, he employs qualitative, historical, and comparative methods to analyse political development in Europe and the United States. His publications include articles on migration, international law, and the Weimar Republic. In addition to his DPhil, Jasper is currently working on projects revolving around illiberal politics in liberal democracies and the ways in which states control the internal movement of people.
